The extra credit discussion question, for up to 5 points...
Please consider the question that Senor Saguaro (via Archie) posed to Leo at the end of the section: "Whose affection do you value more, hers or the others?"
For full five points, please post your response, and then check back in and respond to someone else's response. I'd like to see you use this as an out-of-class discussion tool.

I sort of think that Leo doesn't want to answer the question because he can't admit to himself that he cares more about what others think than Stargirl. I think he wants to care about what Stargirl thinks more than the others because he loves her and everything, but he can't.
ReplyDeleteI think that Leo doesn't want to answer the question because he cares about Stargirl, but he also cares about everyone elses opinion. He wouldn't notice the other people in the school ignoring him, if he cared about Stargirl 100%. He did earlier, but then he relized that they(students) were treating them as if they were invisible. He doesn't want to be invisible anymore, but he doesn't want to give up Stargirl. He depends on others' opinion and doesn't care about his very much.
ReplyDeleteI think that Leo prefers Stargirl's affection. I think that because he wouldn't have hung out with her and stayed away from her so he wouldn't lose his peer's affection.

ReplyDeleteMore with my previous post, I do think that Leo does prefer Stargirl's love like star said, but I think he might be afraid of what happens if he pays no attention to everyone else. I think the aspect of depending on other's veiws of yourself is something we can all relate to, everyone wants to be liked by a certain crowd. Leo is in a difficult place right now because he can't decide if he wants to be liked by Stargirl or by everyone else. Personally I would go with Stargirl, she has different views on life and that has seemed to help/amaze Leo. I can't wait to see what happens next!
I think that Leo doesn't want to answer the question just because he cares about Star Girl so much. But he also values the opinion of his peers very heavily. But thing is he is probably a little to weak towards Star Girl and will choose Peers over her. But then he will probably come back and apologize they'll hook back up and blah blah blah happy ending.

I think Leo and Stargirl are probably more than close friends, but just like everything involving Stargirl, I get the sense that their relationship is hard to define. Great point, Kity Kat, about how Leo doesn't want to be invisible anymore but he might be afraid to commit fully to siding with Stargirl. Thanks for sharing, all!

ReplyDeleteAnswer: No i do not think it is right that Leo pins his comment about stargirl on them. I think this, because if Leo wants to be with Stargirl then he should accept her for who she is not because whay "they think." No, i do not think Leo is being honest, because i think that later on the story that later on Leo will want the old Stargirl back.
